Free ISP's
Setting UP those Free ISP's
I know some people have been having some problems with their computer after installing Freeserve set-up from the CD. This stuff is not original but I thought I would add it to my site, take a look, see if it helps you.
If you have difficulty with free ISP's, setting up your own dial up networking connection may be the answer.
Don't use the CD set-up it has been known to trash your system!! I have spoken to many on the air that seem to have difficulties, and had to reformat their hard drives.
Setting up your own DUN means you can chose which Browser and e-mail/news readers you wish to use.
Personally I do not like Internet Explorer, and until recently, Netscape has been my browser of choice.
Then I discovered OPERA a neat fast little browser (abt.1.2 Meg without Java). A small Scandinavian company developed Opera. And I have been using it over 2 years now, all though it still has a few 'bugs'; I get fewer crashes than I ever did in the past with IE. and Netscape. I must like swimming against the current! Have a look; you can download from their site and judge for yourself. I have no connection with the company, but I like the software. Version 3.62 is the most stable but some Java scripts don't work.
Opera 4.01 final release now available (not sure it's that stable, look out for latest versions with more improvements). Now a version with Java is available to download. I am using Version 4.01 final at the moment. I still have to use NS or IE5 sometimes if a site has been written badly.
The news and e-mail reader I use is AGENT. It is available free as shareware; the free version Free Agent does not give email facilities and some of the other features that the full version does.
