THAT MAN! "GET YOUR HAIR CUT"!
On the Amateur Bands
I have been active as a class A licence holder for about 27 years. With an interest in the world of amateur radio for about 36 years, especially as a SWL and also building homemade equipment. Now I use the computer to help with information retrieval on the Internet, and with antenna design and constructional projects.
In previous years I have entered several VHF contests, operating both from the home QTH and out portable.
I've managed to achieve a few awards for 2 metre QRP (low power) operating, in both the RSGB QRP contest (which they dropped in the early 80's), and the Practical Wireless QRP contest which took over that slot, gaining best fixed station and best single operator awards.
Most recently I have taken part in a few VHF/ UHF Field days. I usually put together the 23 cm station and operate that. The pace and number of contacts is a bit more relaxed on 23 cm compared with 2 m, which suites my health and condition these days.
VHF/UHF/SHF are my main interests, but occasionally I have a dabble on the HF bands, especial now that we are near
the peak of sunspot cycle 23.
I hope to be adding more to my radio section soon, possibly a few more technical items!
