The 2 folded dipoles that form the ZL Special antenna are of differing sizes. The element at the rear is larger than the front element and forms a reflector. Both dipoles are driven with a phase sift of 135° between the elements. This phase shift is achieved using a length of 300 Ohm ribbon cable which is crossed over between the front and rear dipoles.
